MIRACLES IN 2025
Psalm 122:1
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.
We praise the Lord for our church and the fellowship we have with each other as we worship God there. Most of us see the Pactolus Baptist Church as the house of God, so I thought it appropriate that we should look at this term in today’s portion.
King David is an example of someone who looked forward to his time in the house of the Lord. So, join me as we consider how blessed we are to be able to attend our church, and let’s look to David to see what it meant to him.
The great king David loved the Lord. It was his joy to enter into the house of the Lord. That phrase is found 234 times in the Old Testament as it refers to the tabernacle and later to the Temple of Solomon.
As for David, he looked to the house of the Lord as a place to find God’s presence. In Psalm 23, David shares God’s loving kindness as his Shepherd. At the end of those verses, he used the house of the Lord as a reference to heaven. He knew that was where he would have his eternal home. Verse six states, Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Here we see the assurance he had that his eternal salvation was sure and that for all eternity, heaven would be his dwelling place.
We see in Psalm 27:4 again that his greatest expectation was to be with the Lord. He states, One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. Do we have that same desire? When we are not able to attend the services of our church, does it leave a void in our hearts also? The worship we experience through the music, the time fellowshipping with others and having the Word of God opened is a blessing we should not miss. There is a promise found for the worshiper who delights in the weekly services. We see that in Psalms 92:13 which says, Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. To flourish means to blossom with all the blessings of the Lord. We all want to enjoy the Lord’s best for our lives, so this is God saying that if we put Him first, we will be blessed.
We also find this phrase used in reference to the Messiah, the Lord Jesus, on the day of the triumphal entry. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord (Psalms 118:26).
Truly, the house of the Lord is the place where we find our joy, as well as the peace of God and the love of the saints. It is our privilege to belong to a wonderful church like the Pactolus Baptist, and we can all look forward to being together in our services as we fellowship together and worship our Lord.
