A Closer Walk with Christ in 2026
Genesis 22:13-19
Gen 22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. Gen 22:14 So Abraham called the name of that place, Jehovah jireh "The LORD will provide"; as it is said to this day, "On the mount of the LORD it shall be provided." Gen 22:15 And the angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven Gen 22:16 and said, "By myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, Gen 22:17 I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, Gen 22:18 and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice." Gen 22:19 So Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beersheba. And Abraham lived at Beersheba.
God blessed Abraham for his obedience. That is the lesson we carry away from today’s study. God will bless if we obey. This does not promise that we will never have trials, but rather that God will be with us through the trials; and in the end, there will be a blessing for our obedience. From this point on, we see Abraham walking with God in obedience. That obedience was seen in the life of his son also. Picture the vivid memory that was instilled in the mind of Isaac that day. He was on the altar and was at the point of being sacrificed when God protected him. Don’t you know that he realized that God would be with him in the future as He was with Abraham his father?
So, Abraham did return to his servants with his son just as he had told them he would. Then they went home. Where would they go from there? So Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beersheba. And Abraham lived at Beersheba. Beersheba means “the well of the oath.” This was where God had given His promise of blessing, and it was where Abraham had that oath confirmed. We all need a place where we can say, “Here is where God spoke to me.” Once you have that place, be sure that you take time daily to let God speak to you through His Word. That place will become a place of blessing and assurance for you as it was for Abraham. Remember that in God’s testing, He brings blessing.
When we have that special place, we need to be there daily to hear His voice and then obey what His Word teaches us.
Lord, thank you for meeting with us daily. Help us to be obedient to Your Word!
