The King Is Coming

Mark 11:1-10

And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples, Mar 11:2  And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him. Mar 11:3  And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither. Mar 11:4  And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. Mar 11:5  And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? Mar 11:6  And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go. Mar 11:7  And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him. Mar 11:8  And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way. Mar 11:9  And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Mar 11:10  Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

Today, we go from miracles to majesty.  The Lord’s entry into Jerusalem to present Himself as the King of the Jews was a transformative time in the history of Israel.  The promise of His coming had been prophesied for many hundreds of years.  The nation was looking for their Messiah with much hope and expectation, but until Jesus came, there was only disappointment.  Others had come to ravage the land,  but no one ever came to rebuild and glorify the nation since the time of David and Solomon.

Up until the day of the Triumphal Entry, Jesus had maintained a low profile, so what made the difference this time?  The answer is found in the Scriptures.

First, there was the promise of a leader who would present himself as Moses had, one who would lead the people out of bondage.  We see in Deuteronomy 18:17-18, And the LORD said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. Deu 18:18  I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. The only difference was that instead of political bondage, Jesus came to free men from the bondage of sin.

Second, the people expected a leader like David who would be a ruler of Israel and lead the nation to victory over their enemies. Mat 22:42  Jesus asked them, Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.  Jesus came to rule, but His Kingdom is yet to come; then He will provide victory over the greatest enemies, death and Satan.

The third reason is that Jesus offered Himself as the promised Messiah and would have established the Kingdom, but He was rejected by the religious and political leaders.  But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us (Luke 19:14).  One day Jesus will reign over the earth.  He is coming to be the King of kings and Lord of lords.  We must be ready, for we do not know when He is coming.   But His promise is that it will be soon.  Revelation 22:20  He which testifies these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Let this be our prayer today that He may come quickly.  He presented Himself at the Triumphal Entry and was rejected by His own, but The King is coming again; and all of us who know Him as Savior are eagerly waiting for His return!

Prayer Needs

Please continue pray for Dr. Joe Jordan.  He is still in the hospital and has been in Afib the last two days.  His blood pressure is also low.

Frances Lee asked us to please pray for the Matt Paige family, the husband of one of Tammy’s friends.   He passed away on Tuesday.

Please pray for Shirley and Kenny Deans.  Shirley has learned that the lymphoma cancer has returned, and she will have a PET scan and a biopsy done to determine future treatment.  Kenny will need a heart catherization.  He will also be seeing a doctor for a sore on his right leg that will not heal.

Please pray for Carolyn Tyson’s niece and her husband Pam and Joe Wobbleton.  Joe had open heart surgery Friday morning because of a heart attack. The surgery went well, and he went home on Wednesday.   Pam has had several mini-strokes and will need surgery at Chapel Hill.

Praise the Lord!  Thank you for praying for Jennifer Teboe Buchamer.   She had a CT scan on Friday, April 17th.   All of the tumors had shrunk except for 2 that remained stable.  The doctors were greatly surprised.  Please continue to pray for complete healing.

Please pray for Robbie Harvey, who has MAC lung disease.   He fell and broke several ribs.  He is now home from the hospital but in a lot of pain.  He has started a new medication for his lung disease.

Please pray for Peggy Warren.  She is in a lot of pain from a partially crushed disc in her lower back.  However, surgery is not recommended.

Please continue to pray for Marvin Silverthorne for his eyesight to improve.
