A Closer Walk with Christ in 2026
A Walk with the Master Series
He Is Lord
Mark 2:1-12
Mar 2:9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? Mar 2:10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) Mar 2:11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. Mar 2:12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
Jesus returned to Capernaum, which became His headquarters for ministry. When the people learned that He was there, they gathered to hear Him and bring their sick for healing. The crowd was so dense that nobody else could get close to the door of the house.
There was a man who could not walk that needed help to get to Jesus. Four of his friends lifted his bed and went to the roof of the house where Jesus was inside; then they opened a hole in the ceiling so they could lower him down to Jesus. I can imagine the surprise on the faces of those who were inside when they saw a bed coming down from above into the room, but Jesus saw beyond the physical and understood the spiritual need.
Included in the group which was assembled that day, were some of the scribes, who were supposed to be teachers of the Old Testament Law. They were there to criticize and find fault with the ministry of Christ. So they watched to see what the Lord would do and were appalled when Jesus spoke to the lame man and said to him, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” The response of those scribes is priceless. Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” (Mark 2:6-7).
Yes, Jesus forgave the man his sins. This was the greatest need he had, so Jesus gave him what he needed. The Lord responded to the scribes, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts? Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
It was then that Jesus proved that He is Lord. He spoke to the lame man and provided the physical healing that he sought, thus proving that Christ was God in the flesh and was able to forgive sin and also able to heal physical infirmities. I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion (Mark 2:11-12).
The scribes disagreed with who Jesus was, but that did not change the truth that He is Lord. He is, was, and always will be God. He is the Messiah and our Savior. Let’s lift our hearts and praise Him for who He is and all He has done for us!
