God’s Great Patience

2 Peter 3:8-9

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2Pe 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Today, we come to another of God’s promises.  These two verses combine to give us a picture into the heart of a loving Lord.  I believe that there is a prophetic view of the times of the ages seen in verse eight.  one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.   The world was created in six days, and on the seventh day God rested, as we know from the first book of the Bible, Genesis.  Since God used six days to make all things, my own personal belief is that God will give 6,000 years to man to be on the earth until He establishes His kingdom.  This time began with the fall of man and includes God’s plan of redemption to give man a second chance to come to Him for forgiveness before the judgment of the Tribulation.  The following 1,000 years would be the Millennial kingdom of peace where Christ reigns as the King of Peace.  If the earth was created approximately 4,000 years prior to the birth of Jesus, we may be near the time for the fulfillment of this prophecy.

However, verse nine tells us that God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.   His desire is for all men to repent and be saved.  Why has the Lord not returned for his people yet?  The first part of the verse explains this by saying, The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward.  God is patient in order to give an opportunity to everyone who will take advantage of His grace and receive the redemption that was purchased at the cross with the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

God’s love is shown in Romans 5:8, But God commends (demonstrates) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Yes, Christ’s death paid our sin debt in full.  It is because of God’s patience that we are able to still share this great message so that others can be saved.  Let’s do our part so that many can take advantage of God’s love.  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).

Prayer Needs

Praise the Lord for Anderson and Meredith Womble, friends of Donna Dixion.  The doctors feel it is time for the baby to come.  They will deliver the baby Monday or Tuesday.  Pray for a healthy birth.

Please continue to pray for Jennifer Teboe Buchamer.   She completed 22 of the 28 radiation treatments.  So far, she is tolerating them pretty well.  Please pray for the tumor to shrink.

Please continue to pray for Beth Buchta.  She had a hip replacement, on November 25th.   She saw her orthopedic doctor, and he explained she really had a hip revision which is more serious and will take much rest and recuperation time.

Please pray for Jackson Broome as he goes to Duke to discuss a new treatment plan.

Please pray for Marvin Silverthorne.  He will see his eye doctor on January 20th.

Please continue to pray for Phil Corey.   Pray for his continual dialysis treatments.
