Divine Control

Daniel 6:16-17

Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spoke and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou serve continually, he will deliver thee. Dan 6:17  And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

Daniel in the lion’s den is one of the most well-known of the Bible stories.  Most children can tell you about what happened to Daniel and how God delivered him from that great danger.

There is also a deeper life lesson that can be learned from this story which goes beyond that one night event.  Most people do not realize why Daniel was placed in the lion’s den.  The truth is Daniel was a devoted believer in God and trusted the Lord to guide him in his daily life.  He spent time in prayer three times a day and would not let even a decree, foolishly made by the king, stop him.  This is the kind of devotion to the Lord that we need in our lives today.  Having a constant walk with God, which could not be altered by anything, was the principle that caused Daniel his trouble.  His enemies used his walk with God to try to get him removed from his place of great power in the government that God had given him for his faithfulness.

There will always be opposition against us also in our lives.  Satan will attack any way he can, and he often uses those who do not believe in God to accomplish his purposes.  This is why it is so important to have a close, intimate prayer life and a walk with God like Daniel had in order to overcome what might come into our lives.

Daniel was thrown into the lion’s den, but God stopped the mouth of the lions and kept Daniel safe.  He can take care of us in just the same way.  It may not be a lion’s den, but whatever the problem, God is greater; and we can see His divine control in the way He watches over us and takes care of us.  So, like Daniel, we need to keep trusting God and live our lives totally devoted to Him.

God is in control.  That statement is enough to give us the reason to keep on serving the Lord.  If we keep our eyes focused on God and His great love and power, it will help us to stay firm in our commitment to Him amidst the trials of life.
