God’s Majesty Displayed by Snow
Job 38:22
Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail?
It is interesting this week as we experience the snow event here in our area to think of the way snow is mentioned in the Scriptures. The reference to snow is found in 24 different verses in the Bible. It is used in various ways to teach lessons the Lord has for us to learn.
Snow is used to depict perfection in several verses, as we see in Lamentations 4:7. Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire.
Then we see it used as purity in Isaiah 1:18. Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Snow is used to display brightness of color as seen in Mark 9:3. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. And again of the Lord Himself in Rev 1:14. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire.
In the book of Job, the Lord is challenging Job to show that he does not understand the majesty of God. Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great? Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail (Job 38:21-22).
We also see that snow is used to show that it cannot cleanse man of his sin. This is found in Job 9:28-30. I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent. If I be wicked, why then labor I in vain? If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean. Man cannot wash himself clean of his own sin. Only the Lord Jesus Christ has that power by the sacrifice of His own blood.
The Lord is so wonderful that He controls the treasuries of snow as well as everything else. He is our all in all, the One who loves us with an everlasting love, and by His grace He displays His perfection, purity, brilliance, majesty, and forgiveness to us who are His children.
Enjoy the snow, and praise the Lord for He is our wonderful Lord and Savior!
